Principal duties:
Teach STS 201: Where Science Meets Society on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1:20-2:10.
The instructor is responsible for the creation of a syllabus (using past syllabi and in consultation with current faculty), preparation and presentation of lectures, homework assignments, exams and setting grading criteria for course materials.
This course explores the relationship between science, technology, and society. It is premised on the idea that science and technology affect our social, cultural, economic, and political lives, and equally that scientific research and technological change are shaped by their social, cultural, economic, and political context.
This course aims to bridge disciplinary perspectives by integrating insights from work in history, sociology, political science and philosophy/ethics. It is specifically designed to bring together students from humanities, engineering, social and natural sciences to discuss the social dimensions of advances in science and technology, thus helping to build skills for communicating across the divide between the human and natural sciences. Areas to be explored include: genetics, the environment, nanotechnology and the internet.
