Dr. Michelle Kelly, Associate Professor (CHS) of Pediatrics, was quoted in a recent Washington Post article about how tablet-based bedside patient portals, like those offered at American Family Children’s Hospital, can help parents of hospitalized children maintain a sense of control and better advocate for their child’s care. Dr. Kelly, who helped develop a toolkit for implementing bedside patient portals, said that portals that provide access to charts helps prepare patients and family members for doctors’ rounds, and allows them to ask more informed questions. Dr. Kelly became a member of the Holtz Center last fall. Her research focuses on developing tools and technologies leveraging family engagement to improve the quality and safety of care of hospitalized children.
