Holtz Center affiliate, June Jeon will be joining Tufts University’s Tisch College of Civic Life as a postdoctoral fellow in Civic Science. The Civic Science Initiative at the Tisch College seeks to repair the disconnection between the institution of science and the public it means to serve.
Jeon’s interests include science and technology studies (STS), environmental sociology, social theory, and ethnography. He will soon be receiving his PhD from the Department of Sociology with a joint PhD from the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies. He earned his BS in Chemistry and a MS in Science and Technology Policy from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.
His research investigates the production and reproduction of ignorance in scientific laboratories with combination of historical and ethnographic methods. Specifically, he intends to demonstrate how environmental scientific researches are shaped by public policy, corporate influence, and socio-historical contexts, and that, therefore, the production of scientific knowledge and ignorance are tied to various forms of manufactured ignorance.
June received a top-up fellowship from the Holtz Center in 2016-18 and was a summer scholar in 2019. The Holtz Center is excited to continue to support him from UW-Madison, during this next chapter of exploration of continued research in science and technology studies at Tufts University.
