In this talk, taken from her book project On Behalf of Life: Bioidentification and Vital Advocacy, Jenell Johnson examines how life itself becomes the object of moral consideration and political action. Looking at environmental rhetoric associated with the deep ecology movement, Johnson explores the potential of life as a means of identification between human and other-than-human worlds, as well as the danger of setting life itself as an ultimate term.
