Attendees will work with Catherine D’Ignazio (feminist data visualization expert) and the United Way of Dane County, specifically, the Journey Home Initiative. The Journey Home Initiative addresses recidivism or “return to prison rates” by providing housing, employment, support, and treatment programming for individuals looking for a fresh start.
This year’s Design Challenge explores the geographies of recidivism in Madison through feminist mapping! Working with Catherine D’Ignazio, attendees will learn about feminist visualization principles and then put theory into practice in an all day mapping event. Attendees will break into teams and work with the Journey Home Initiative of the United Way to make maps that have a positive and productive impact on our community disrupting the cycle of recidivism in Madison.
Stay tuned for more information on the additional events with Catherine D’Ignazio, including Geography’s Yi-Fu Lecture Series on February 16 at 3:30pm in Science Hall, Room 180.
